Mission

Hyphen Lab is a residency program focused on sharing ideas, knowledge and developing projects between professional artists with diverse backgrounds and artistic practices, recognizing that bringing international artists together in real life is critical for meaningful professional development.

Founded in 2025, we focus especially on artists with lived experience as first and second-generation immigrants of any background  and anyone exploring the concepts of cultural identity, memory and intergenerational bonds.

Located in the remote and tranquil setting of Salt Spring Island, Canada, this program is held in the Spring and Fall and is by invitation only.

Program

Milestones, GAANT charts, relationship management - generally gross business jargon fit for cogs, not artists exploring ideas outside of a Capitalist framework of productivity. Yet to survive as professional artists, buy time for artistic endeavors and move deliberately through a non-commercial artistic career, one must learn how to navigate and grow networks, manage projects, and align opportunities thoughtfully with career objectives, particularly for those making art from the periphery.

Each residency consists of a practical program designed between artists and curators with shared projects or goals.
