The Story Behind "Biking For Charity"
This painting came out of a conversation I had with my paternal aunt #9 (when I was young I knew people older than me only by their number, or rank. Nobody tells you they have names that aren’t numbers and when you don’t know the language, you can’t tell the difference). The painting is the vision I held in my head while this conversation was occurring:
Aunt #9: Do you need money?
Me: No, I don’t think so, why?
Aunt #9: Because your dad has been seen around town riding a bicycle. People are talking about it.
Me: No, it's not that he’s poor and can’t afford to drive a car, he rides a bike for fun. It’s a Canadian thing. They ride around on bicycles because they like to, for their health or for the environment.
Aunt #9: What?
