Chrystal Phan left a career in fundraising to bring her own version of Vietnamese-Canadian life into
the North American art world. Using figuration as a tool for reclaiming power, Phan works at a large scale to create genre scenes of the Vietnamese diaspora that rely on a shared visual language to include Asian life in ways that are neither exotic, magical, nor orientalized.

Working and residing in Victoria, British Columbia, Phan’s artworks can be found in private collections across Canada and public instiutions including the Royal BC Museum and the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria.
